Deacon Sylvester Sikes Sr. was born to the late Eddie and Frances Lane Sikes in Coffee County on March 2,1940. Deacon Sikes was a farmer up until he was hired at Fort Rucker. He was dedicated worker on the job for 50 years. He worked for Fort Rucker until he was called home to be with the Lord. Deacon Sikes was a board member for the NAACP Branch #5017. He is a former member of the Miracle Deliverance Temple in Enterprise, AL under the leadership of Bishop James Holmes. He later attended WIRC under the leadership of Apostle Gillis Thomas. He joined St. Elizabeth Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of James C. Harvey Sr. of Geneva, AL.
Surviving his departure with cherished memories, his beloved wife Pamela McNair Sikes of Daleville, AL; four children Betty Lou Sikes of Meriden, CT, Glenda Sikes of Lithonia, GA, Sylvester (Phyllis) Sikes Jr of Samson, AL, and Demeko Sikes of Vernon, CT; loving and& dedicated devoted Godchildren, Sharon W. Rogers of Ozark, AL, Arica K. Broughton and Shawn McCorvey, both of Daleville, AL; four sisters Tiny (Lo) Flowers, Betty Sue (Shedrick)
Brooks, Betty Lou Brooks, and Christine Williams; nine grandchildren Frankie Sikes, LaTanya Sikes, Martina Smith, Virginia Smith, Evelyn Anthony, Sylvester Sikes III, Demeka Sikes, Jalicia Morris, and Janna Morris; and 17 great-grandchildren.
Deacon Sikes was preceded in death by his parents, loving devoted first wife of 54 years Mother Mamie Sikes, his daughter Pauline Hightower, granddaughter Yolanda Clark, and his grandson Kip Madison.
Funeral arrangements for Deacon Sylvester Sikes Sr. were held on Wednesday, December 11, 2024 at St. Elizabeth's Missionary Baptist Church in Geneva, AL.
